Licensing Path

New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson Requirements

Six steps established by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission (NJREC) to become a licensed salesperson.

Step 1

Basic Eligibility Requirements

Step 2

Complete the Required 75-Hour Pre-Licensing Course

Before taking the state licensing examination, students must successfully complete a 75-hour pre-licensing course through an NJREC-approved school. Our program prepares you not only to pass the exam, but to build a successful and ethical real estate career.

Courses may be offered in in-person classroom settings, live virtual instruction, or online learning formats (where applicable).

Step 3

Pass the New Jersey State Licensing Examination

After completing the 75-hour course, students have one year to pass the New Jersey State Real Estate Examination.

Step 4

Complete Fingerprinting & Background Check

All applicants must undergo a criminal history background check and fingerprinting process as part of the licensing application. The estimated cost is approximately $67 (subject to change), coordinated through the State of New Jersey's approved fingerprinting vendor.

Step 5

Secure a Sponsoring Broker

Before submitting your application for licensure, you must affiliate with a licensed New Jersey real estate broker. Your sponsoring broker:

Submit Your License Application

Once all requirements are completed, applicants must submit:
